The
Grand River Dam Authority Board of Directors has approved a resolution
to suspend waivers of its lake rules for Grand and Hudson lakes, until
guidelines are adopted to determine when the granting of a waiver is
appropriate. The board approved the resolution at its July 21 meeting.
"Be
it resolved by the Board of Directors of the Grand River Dam Authority
that no waivers of or variances to the Rules and Regulations shall be
granted until such time as these criteria have been specifically
established and adopted," states the resolution.
This
action on the part of the board comes in response to concerns that,
absent the consideration of objective criteria, the granting of a waiver
might be considered arbitrary.
However,
the public will have a chance to give input on new guidelines before a
proposal goes to the board, said GRDA Chief Executive Officer Kevin
Easley. "Public input is very important to us as we work through
these guidelines," said Easley, "and we will be scheduling
those public meetings in the near future."
