Hello Grand Lakers!

Well, it has been hot! Can you believe August is almost here?

The fishing this week has been pretty good for us. Not so good, but fair, on some days, and really good on others. I had all half-day guide trips this week, fishing mostly for sandbass. We caught anywhere from about twenty keepers to one hundred. The wind hurt us all week since it blew fairly hard, even early in the mornings. We still did okay, however. Some days we caught really good-sized whites and other days they ran a little smaller. After catching about 50 whites One guy asked me when the bigger ones bit. I told him, "yesterday". It seems like it is always "yesterday".

We haven't been catching too many whites on top this week. Instead we've been catching them at about 15 to 20 feet deep on spoons. The gulls have returned to Grand in a big way so I think the whites will be found on top a lot soon.

A lot of guys are catching blacks on big Texas-rigged worms but I didn't fish for them much this past week. They're biting for me at about 15 feet deep. They may stay there for a while, but some years the oxygen starts to leave the deeper warm water in August and September and the fish are found very shallow. Every year is different.

I have seen some crappie being caught on jigs. I think we're going to have a good fall for crappie. As the water starts cooling near the end of September, we should have a good bite.

I have talked to a few catfishermen who are catching quite a few smaller cats, but nothing too big.

I want to thank several other guides who have taken some guide trips for me when I was over-booked this year. All have done a great job. Hank Souders, Mark Bolte, Everett Eaton and Guy Morrow have all done a great job and if you need a guide I can recommend them all.

It has been a busy summer and I want to thank all of you who have used my guide service.

See you on the lake!

Ivan

Hi folks:

Fishing Report for South Grand Lake, the Grand River, Spavinaw Lake and Lake Eucha.

Grand Lake Elevation 744.4 feet. And steady. temperature is in the high eighties, generation, on mostly late afternoon and early evening, and NO gates.

The bass are biting better. Spinner baits, crank baits, plastic baits, are producing fish. Night fishing with plastics is best.

The crappie are in 15-25 feet of water, most are being caught on minnows, around the docks.

The Sand Bass are being caught on Rat-l-traps, rooster tails, jigs, and vertical jigging a spoons. Trolling with shad-raps is good too. Fish early in the morning and late afternoon. Fish should start surfacing soon.

They are catching catfish using shad on jugs and drifting in deep water, on the main lake near the dam and in the mouth of drowning creek.

Fishing in the river is still good. We caught a lot of fish drifting in the river this week using shad sides dipped in bills stink bait. The sand bass fishing is very good near the cable and down river and will stay good as long as long as the water is running. We're catching lots sand bass on top water lures down river where the cottenwood hole meets the river; Sara Puppies are working great. Spoonbill fishing is real slow. Black bass and crappie are active too!

Spavinaw Lake is normal and fishing is good, crappie are being caught near the dam and over the shelters. Sand bass are being caught in the lake. Black bass fishing has improved. The catfish are being caught on limb lines.

Lake Eucha is near normal, crappie fishing is good on jigs. Black bass fishing is fair. Sand bass are good in the lake.

Catfishing is good on limb lines.

Mark Bolte - Mark's Info Page - -  Report as/of 07/25/10  Mark Bolte, Spoonbill Specialist - GrandFishingReport.com

Hey folks!

White bass are good one day and fair the next.

I took J. D. Harp and his grandsons, Nathan 15 and Spencer 12, on a guide trip this weekend. I'll tell you, it was a lot of fun watching those two young men fishing! It was a really tough day and I think it made them fish harder, with not a "give-up" bone in their body. The whites never did surface for us like they have been doing lately but we caught them on spoons and grubs from three to about twenty feet of water. Three great guys who fished hard and took home a sack of fish for their efforts. That is what it takes when it is tough after a front comes through or the wind changes or whatever else might happen. You do have to go to catch them. No one ever caught anything at home sitting on the sofa.

Catfishing has been good on jugs but I have heard of some dying on the lines in this heat, so run them often, at least every two to three hours.

If the wind lays I am ready to do some drifting.

My Taxidermy Shop is doing deer this year. We do deer, fish, fish replicas and some birds. I have 21 years of experience in the trade. You can call for info at 620-719-0939.

Check out some of my past trip pictures. I usually snag from October into May, depending on weather and water levels. This past winter was fantastic in the deep water. Check out more pictures, and get your trip booked for the season now!

Check out the catfish bait Jeff Williams is promoting. You can find it and pretty much anything else you might need at Littlefield Sporting Goods, at the entrance to Monkey Island.

Remember, keep only what you need and release the rest for another day. If you would like a guide trip call Martin Guide Service or email me.

See ya on the water!

Hey folks:

Black Bass- Very good. The bass are being caught in a lot of different ways the bigger ones are coming on Carolina rigs, big jigs ten inch worms, and deep crank baits.

White Bass- They have been catching them very good. Spooning them on the Silver Rainbow Minnow is still the most popular way. When you go you will want to hold on tight to your rod, you never know when you will hook into a big Hybrid. They are catching one almost every day.

Catfish- Good on Cut shad, Night crawlers, Shrimp in less than 5' water in the rocks.

Crappie- Good they have been biting on Grandpa's jigs and Minnows. They are in summer homes, the deeper brush piles and docks.

Perch- Good around docks on live worms and Gulp Alive Red worms.

Good Luck Fishing!

Hank Souders - Hank's Info Page - Report as/of: 07/10/09 Meet Hank Souders, now guiding out of Martin Landing-GrandFishingReport.com

Now would be a really good time to catch some catfish.

Crappie are doing okay in and around the boat docks and white bass just about everywhere, although not as good as before.

Black bass are good in numbers, but smaller as a rule.

See you on the water!

Everett Eaton - Everett's Info Page - - Report as/of: 07/22/10  Everett Eaton

Hello Anglers:

Grand Lake bass fishing is good, even though it is hot and the water is very warm. The level is normal for summer (744) and the clarity is good all over the lake. At the 744 level you can find bass in the willows and that pattern is working well. You just need to find the willows that have about two feet of water in them for the larger bass. Point willows are always good.

Main lake fishing is consistent with this time of year patterns. Work points and humps thoroughly and you will find some bites. The "rig", crank baits or soft plastics are getting action. As usual, boat docks produce well this time of year. The lighter the line used the more bites you get it seems. Naturally, light line fish are more of a struggle to land.

Top water action is really good early and late or when the sky is overcast. Buzz-baits, chuggers or spooks get their share of bites and often larger bass on average.

Remember to take lots of hydrating liquids and consume them before you begin to feel thirsty.

This is a good time of year to practice getting back into your boat from off shore. Strip down to your bathing suit, put on a life jacket and go overboard and then work on a plan to get back into the boat, unassisted. Strongly, suggest that you have at least one other person with you when you make this move just in case you are unable to re-board. When this re-boarding is successful, at some time it would be advisable to practice again, but this time with full clothing. Obviously, the purpose is to simulate an accidental fall into the lake. Such practice could be a life saver especially during cold weather.

Good fishing and good luck and as always, watch out for the severe weather conditions and be safe. Wear that PFD!
